Delta

A Long Standing Heritage

The Sacramento River Delta

The Sacramento River Delta is a unique and beautiful region in Northern California, formed by the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers. This rich agricultural area is home to fertile farmlands, picturesque waterways, and tight-knit communities that have farmed this land for generations.

Courtland, the home of the Pear Fair, is a small, historic town nestled along the Sacramento River. The surrounding farmland is world-renowned for producing the finest Bartlett pears — the inspiration behind our beloved annual fair.

Pear Farming Heritage

The Delta has been a pear-growing region since the late 1800s. At its peak, the region was one of the largest producers of Bartlett pears in the world. Today, while the industry has changed, the tradition of celebrating the harvest lives on through events like the Pear Fair.

The Pear Fair serves as an annual reminder of this agricultural heritage and the importance of supporting local farming communities.
