5:00pm – 6:15pm on the Main Stage – Mariachi Bonitas

Interview by Dinorah Klingler from “The Hollywood 360”

Dinorah Klingler started her musical journey with her guitar in Mexico City when she was 9 years old. For fun, Dinorah and her sisters would go to subways and buses to put on performances. She started taking professional music lessons at Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. When she was 20 years old, she met her American boyfriend and moved to Los Angeles, California. With her new life in L.A., Dinorah wanted to continue singing as she did in Mexico City. In 1997, she joined an all-female mariachi called Mariachi Las Adelitas.

In 1998, Dinorah decided to move on from Mariachi Las Adelitas and form her own mariachi, Mariachi Las Alondras. At the time, there were two other all-female mariachis in Los Angeles, Mariachi Reynas de Los Angeles and Mariachi Las Adelitas. Dinorah wanted to do something different; she wanted her mariachi to be female led. Mariachi Las Alondras found success and performed with stars such as Stevie Wonder, Sheila E, Patty LaBelle, and Celia Cruz.

Dinorah went with her husband to Michigan as he was pursuing medical school thus leaving her Mariachi Las Alondras. She left it in the hands of Cindy Shea who later became director of Mariachi Las Alondras. Over time, Cindy Shea changed the name to Mariachi Divas. Cindy led Mariachi Divas to become multi Grammy Award winners and nominee all-female mariachi. “I’m really proud of her,” says Dinorah, “Because she really worked it; the way it should be. She’s a very smart person, a business savvy woman and with talent, you have everything in one package.”

20 years later, Dinorah comes back strong to form a new all-female mariachi, Mariachi Bonitas de Dinorah Klingler in Sacramento, California. She is extremely excited to start a new era in her musical journey. She cannot wait to show Northern California and the rest of the world what her Mariachi Bonitas have in store for everyone!
